My wife and I went to Salt Lake City over Christmas to be with both our sons, who are close in age to the author's son and subject of the book. We read the book to each other during a drive back to Dallas and were both surprised and delighted by the exquisite balance the author found in a narrative that was at times deeply distressing and sad, and uplifting throughout at the same time.While the story itself is one of a family's struggle through an event that could have come out so much worse, that required deep personal resilience and family strength, the book is full of experiences and stimulus for deeper thinking that certainly drove us to reflect on our family, the process of parenting and letting go, as well as resilience and togetherness in working through inevitable challenges. Their experience shows the importance of others in our lives, however fleeting their presence.It also awakened some good perspectives for approaching the future and how to prepare for the unknown and how to be authentically in the moment, regardless of circumstances.The Krause family shared a story of strength through adversity over time and it is my contention the extreme nature of what happened to Theo magnifies and as a result allows the reader to reflect personally through a clearer lens.I recommend the book.
