Excellent tool to tutor/teach my son. I speak as someone who loved math in school, excelled in it, and use it now in my career. My son, on the other hand, sees math as a chore. He dislikes his teacher, and neither of us like the textbook (Springboard) he uses in school. Both of us much prefer this book. It is well laid out, and a good value. It has the right number of problems so that you can evaluate whether you have learned the material. If you need more problems, you can look for them elsewhere. This keeps the book to a manageable length, not overwhelming. Very happy with my purchase.
Love, love, love this book.As a private tutor, I had been searching for a good supplemental resource book for Geometry, and I stumbled upon this one. I had a student who was struggling with Geometry, lost, overwhelmed and intimidated by the subject, and math phobic. We worked together for several weeks, and made some good progress, but she was still struggling. Then this book arrived. At first she panicked a little, because this book didn't look like her class text book, with its handwritten notes and easy, less formal language. But then she started working with it in between our tutoring sessions, and she "got" it. (As a teacher, those are the moments you live for). Her stress level and math anxiety went WAY down, she became confident and even comfortable with the subject. After her midterms I waited to hear from her to schedule our next session. And waited. . .and waited. . . I finally spoke with her father, who happily reported how well she was doing, and how enthusiastic she was about this book. A few months later, I got the call every tutor loves - an excited (former) student reporting that they got an A in the class, confidence and enthusiasm practically bursting from her. Ah well, thanks to this book, I lost a $50 per hour tutoring job. . . but for the very best of reasons:)This book can initially be a little intimidating, because its big, thick, crammed with information, and might not look exactly like the math texts you've been used to. But once you get into it, you will fall in love with it. Its well-organized by topic, and its beyond thorough in its discussion of each item. the margins are filled with hand-written notes and diagrams showing key ideas, shortcuts, common mistakes to avoid, and explanations. It can be used either as a primary text to progress through from beginning to end, or as a secondary, supplemental resource to be used just as a fill in to learn more about specific topics. Its presentation of proofs is especially well done.I wish this series was available in every subject I teach. . .
My son's school switched to "common core geometry" this year. The other students are lost and the teacher doesn't seem to know how to teach this latest theory (at parents night we were told that this new "new math" will make our children MUCH smarter but she couldn't even explain what common core geometry is or how it's different from the regular geometry). But..... MY son is doing great, thanks to Tutor in a Book and he even LIKES the class. The person who wrote this book knows geometry and knows how to teach it. As for common core geometry it looks like it's the same material but done in a different order. My son read the last chapter of the tutor book first and then understood what was going on in the class. I recommend this book, it's very good.
Purchased this book for my son who is taking honors geometry. He was having difficulty understanding the teaching method of the instructor. After some tutoring with his teacher and using this book, he better understands what she was trying to convey and is doing much better. I recommend it.
I was skeptical since I've tried other "math help" books before. This one is it! This book has helped my teenage son gain confidence in geometry AND actually understand and retain the information. His grade is increasing and his confidence is building. He no longer despises geometry. The geometry battles between us are over and this book helps me to explain concepts to him when needed. I definitely would purchase again.
I was asked to co-teach a geometry class and was scared about it. I had not had geometry in year and needed to refresh my memory. I purchased this book as a refresher for me so that I could teach my students effectively and know what I was doing. This is one of the best tutoring books around. It walks you through each problems step by step and provides you with many opportunities to practice each skill. I can honestly say that I learned more from this book than I did in school. I use it with my students to give them extra support as well.

Since I can't always help my daughter with her homework due to my work schedule, I got her this book. Her grade went from a B to an A aand her understanding has improved measurably. The examples are helpful, clear, concise. It illustrates the "thinking" through the problems.While it won't replace an actual course, I think it is a marvelous tool for help - and much cheaper, more available than a tutor.
