This is a pleasant read. I read it quickly and enjoyed the simple story. It is not a great book that makes you think of it long after you've read it and often during the reading you think how dumb some parts are and well it is written about teenagers, but they seem closer to thirteen than to 19. I would read another book, but only if it were free. I wouldn't spend money on another one.

I really like this author's writing style. One can enjoy a good mystery without the graphic details that can sometimes be hard to swallow. The characters show their faults along with their strengths and it makes for a very good story. The plot moves very quickly so one doesn't have time to get bored or frustrated. Highly recommend this book. I received a free copy of this book and wanted to post my honest feelings about it. I am going to be buying more books by this author.

It was a really great story. I love all of the Witch Squad, they're funny, witty, smart, and brave. It's a great read for any age, youth, or grown--up. It reminded me somewhat of Nancy Drew meets Harry Potter, only happier, and funnier. I look forward to reading the rest of the series someday, although this could easily be a standalone book. Thanks M.Z. Andrews, for leading me to a "happy place!"

One of the best parts was being able to download a "sample" of this book. I notice her next book offers this feature too. Besides being able to read a sample first, it is, also, a stand-alone book. I very much appreciate sampling first instead of downloading a "free" book and then coming to a cliff hanger. This was an excellent mystery. Well written, no bad or crude language or graphic sex scenes. It kept my attention and was entertaining and light. I'm reading a sample of M.Z. Andrews next book and will probably buy it. I do like the way this author does things.

Cute characters and an okay twist on the school-of-magic theme, but really needed another good edit. The poor grammar, weak character development, and especially the odd word-use are very distracting. (What 19 year old sullen teen notes the headmistress has hair falling below where her butt "swells"? And then later says the same witch has a "bony little butt"? Why does the head witch tell different groups of people, "without you the school is nothing" just a few paragraphs apart? When parting from her mother, the protagonist isn't showing mixed feelings so much as badly jumbled inner and outer dialogue. And on and on.)I found every time the story got interesting, the poor editing jarred me back out of it. Not bad writing per se, and the plot was interesting, but this manuscript was not ready for publication. I'm not sure I'll check out the rest of the series in case they are the same.

I almost stopped reading this book after the first chapter. The main character, Mercy, was only 19, and going to a paranormal institute to avoid jail. She was snarky and determined to keep everyone at a distance. Just too young and "angsty" for me, I thought, but I'm glad I kept reading. As Mercy interacts with other girls at the school, her character evolves. She and a few other young women become "the witch squad" and become involved in helping others. The book needs some serious proofreading, but the characters grow, the action moves quickly, and the paranormal elements cause chills. I will definitely continue this series.

At first I thought this was a teen-agers book series...but since I had it I thought I'd read at least the first one. Boy was I wrong! Sure it works fine for the younger set, but even at my advanced age, I enjoyed it tremendously. Lots of fun, mystery, a little bit of romance and some lite magic, what a combo...a winning combo! Good charahters, fun backround and a really good story. Actually I bought the rest of the series and read with 4 days!!! You won't be sorry.

I got this book while it was $0.00, but that doesn't mean I won't give an honest review. I thought it was 4 out of 5 stars. It was a push to the 4 because the characters reminded me of 14-16-year-olds instead of 18+. The language the kids used were more of high schoolers instead of university. The story had parts where it didn't make sense but overall it was decent. It was hard to figure out who the "bad guy" was and they tried super hard to make the "black witch" seem like she was bad and part of it that you just knew that she wasn't even before it was revealed that she was indeed not bad. I don't think I'll order the next one until it goes under a dollar in price. I wouldn't say that I enjoyed it enough to spend that much on it especially since it was a short read. Overall, not a bad story, the characters were typical book characters, with not many characteristics to them but you couldn't help but like them. Stereotypical kids really, but overall a decent story. It was hard for me to guess who the bad guy was so the author did that on point. So kudos to the author on the plot!
