This story was so magical, so whimsical, and so perfect. I was skeptical, because I'm pretty much the only person on Goodreads that did not like The Night Circus, but this didn't remind me of The Night Circus at all. Well, at least the 15% I read before I couldn't force myself to read more. I mean, I can see where people would draw the parallels because of the plot, but the writing in this is much more reminiscent of The Raven Boys or Heartless. The prose is the epitome of lyrical, with descriptions that were nothing short of magical, and I devoured it all with a smile on my face.“It looked like a storybook come to life. She peered down at bright pointy rooftops, moss-covered towers, gingerbread cottages, gleaming gold bridges, blue-brick streets, and bubbling fountains, all lit by candled lamps that hung everywhere, giving an appearance of time that was neither day nor night.”Can we talk about how this is Stephanie Garber’s debut novel? I am seriously shocked, because this is not the writing of a new or amateur writer. She has perfected her craft, and made just a really addictive and impressive first story. I hope and pray she wins 2017's Best Debut Goodreads Author award, because she is so deserving with this masterpiece. I'm in awe of her talent, honestly.God, the writing was so good. The descriptions were perfection. I understand this might not be for everyone, but this world consumed me and I didn't want to leave when I turned the last page. I know this book is about a magical place, but it truly ended up being a magical experience that I'm not going to forget anytime soon. Caraval is the first book I gave five stars to in 2017, and it is so very deserving of that title.The plot of this has a perfect thriller tempo, too! Yes, I've been raving about how magical and lyrical this book is, but I have to emphasize that the pace is fast, too! Each chapter holds a new mystery, and I felt so compelled to never put this book down. Caraval truly is a fast and magical journey that I can't help but recommend everyone take!Caraval is a magical game that is played once a year. Not everyone can go, but the lucky ones are sent tickets, and once they arrive they are able to choose if they'd like to watch the game or actually play the game. Scarlett has been writing to the master of Caraval, Legend, her whole life in hopes to acquire tickets for her and her sister, and after all these years she finally gets a letter back.And the sibling love in this is so amazing. My brother and I are really close, and there is nothing I wouldn't do for him. Scarlett's devotion to her sister warmed my heart completely and I loved reading about it. Also, seeing them pick each other over boys is my freaking jam.This book also tackles the hard topic of parental abuse, emotional, mental, and physical. This topic is so important, and doesn't seem to be in much YA, unless it is the center of the story. So many kids grow up being abused, yet, it doesn't become the center of their life. Seeing Scarlett realize she is not the value of her father's rage was beautiful. We need more books that handle this issue, because Uncle Vernon and Harry Potter isn't close to being the epitome of an abusive relationship. Many parents can be manipulative, abusive, terrible, and it isn't the victims fault, ever.“People think no one sees all the nasty things they do in the dark. The foul acts they commit, or the lies they tell as part of the game. Caraval takes place at night because you like to watch, and see what people do when they think there are no consequences.”This book does border on unreliable narrative though, because as Scarlett is learning the rules of the game and the magic of Caraval, so is the reader. Caraval is a facade, it might be a beautiful facade, but it is still a facade. The reader is never sure if what they are reading is true, and that is because Scarlett never knows if what she is experiencing is true. I loved the mystery factor and thought it worked perfectly, but I can see where others might not like it as much as me.And the characters and players in this world are so wonderful! Scarlett was my favorite, and I feel like it would be almost impossible not to fall in love with her. Her sister, Tella, has a good heart and her actions were coming from a good place, but she was a little frustrating. Hopefully, in the next book, my love for Scarlett will carry over to Tella. Julian is the other main character you read about, alongside Scarlett. His character was so endearing and I absolutely loved this story-arc and twist(s). Not knowing whether to root and cheer for him or wish him dead was a unique experience to say the least!I loved this book. I loved it with my whole heart. I read this in one day; I couldn't put it down. This book is the definition of a sensory read. Please give it a try. I understand that not every book is for everyone, but this book is pretty close to perfection, in my eyes. I whole heartedly expect this to show up on my "Best of 2017" list, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel.

I wasted money buying this book. Just like most other YA books, this has everything you're not looking for: a female characters who is pretty without knowing it; a brooding, secretive love interest that evolves into a will they won't they relationship; and a mysterious villian. This is supposed to be about an unbreakable bond between the sisters, except one is only in about 15% of the novel. There was no depth to their relationship, only tiny bits of shared horror stories that really weren't all that pearl-clutching. There was no real depth to the characters at all, we never got to know them, and I felt like their arc was flat. The imagery was meh for me. Sure, throw in a whole bunch of adverbs and adjectives that imbue glitter and sparkle, but this reads like you're just trying to fill up space on the page. It becomes repetitive and heavy. I found myself skimming ahead a ton of this book just to get through the descriptions. World building is great when you're not smacked in the face with us. What's the novel-writing adage... Show, don't tell? We're definitely told. Over and over and over and over. This glittered, that sparkled, this shone. Ugh. And in between all of this, we are supposed to care about this character searching for her sister because... she's her sister? Beyond that, there wasn't an established relationship that made me cheer Scarlett on in the race to find her. Do yourself a favor and buy this book when it's on sale, skim the pages and read the end. You won't miss much.

I always worry about buying books that have a huge hype on them because I have high hopes for the book then, only to be let down when I read it, but Caraval didn’t disappoint. Caraval isn’t just a book, it’s an experience!!“Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find yourself magic in this world.”And magic did I find! This book was a magical page-turner that I couldn’t put down! When people ask me what it reminds me of, I tell them to image Alice in Wonderland mixed with a circus and an amusement park. Most of the book takes place on an island, where the Master of Caraval–Legend–lives. Caraval is a magical performance that travels to a new place every year, but this year, the Master and his performers aren’t traveling, but are having a private performance and Master Legend invites our main character, Scarlett, and her sister Tella. You can choose to either watch the game unfold, or join in and try to win that years’ prize before the other participants do! And this years’ prize is something everyone wants…a wish.I told you a bit about the plot, and Caraval, but what I didn’t tell you about is how much I love this book! I love everything about it, from the bonds it shows between siblings, to the magic you can find in every page! I haven’t had this much fun reading a book since I read Harry Potter. Yes, I’m comparing it to Harry Potter (My favorite series). Why? Because I felt the magic every time I picked up the book! I felt as if I was in the book, playing Caraval alongside Scarlett. And just like I want to experience Hogwarts, I want to be a part of Caraval. Would I want to play? Um, different story! HAHAHA I’d probably be that person who goes mad and gets swept away, but how a beautiful way I could be swept!“What happens beyond this gate may frighten or excite you, but don’t let any of it trick you. We will try to convince you it’s real, but all of it is a performance. A world built of make-believe. So while we want you to get swept away, be careful of being swept too far away. Dreams that come true can be beautiful, but they can also turn into nightmares when people won’t wake.”I loved all the characters in this novel, especially Julian and Scarlett. Scarlett is hesitant, but brave. She thinks too much, but since she has so much to lose in life, I can’t blame her. What I love about her, besides her honest and caring heart, is her wiliness to put aside her own happiness for her sister. I’m very close to my two sisters, especially my older sister, so their bond really hit home for me. Scarlett reminds me of my older sister and while I’m not entirely like the courageous, and sometimes infuriating Tella, I can’t lie and say I don’t see myself in her because I do. Both are likable characters, but Scarlett really won me over. I adored her character and loved that this book showed the power of love between siblings.Now, Julian. Like Scarlett, I didn’t trust the man right at the start. There was something about him that made me cautious, but when she started to fall for him, I fell for him too! His character is indescribable! But I’ll try to say a little about him. He’s bold, and courageous. He’s stubborn, strong, and so, so likable! God, can you see I have a mini crush on him? Mini? Yeah, I could hear the lie myself. I’m a huge Julian lover! If I didn’t like Scarlett with Julian so much, I would beat her with a stick for him!! (I won’t, but it’s tempting when he acts all mysterious and charming!)“She imagined loving him would feel like falling in love with darkness, frightening and consuming yet utterly beautiful when the stars came out.”My overall thoughts? This book is magical, whimsical, and utterly enchanting! My favorite book of 2017 so far!

I purchased this e-book as research for a healthcare e-learning course I'm building on Caring for People with Hearing Loss and found the content very informative and well-written. It was definitely clear that the author is an expert on the subject matter and has the experience and training to serve as an authority. However, my biggest complaint was the lack of references. In the e-book, there wasn't even a publish date. APA would cringe at my reference details. I had to get the bibliographical details from the Amazon site. That's one of my biggest beefs with many self-published works. It's difficult to write on best practices in a subject and just take the author's word for it. I would encourage the author to update it with details to support her content. Also, at 61 pages, it was a pretty small volume. Regardless, I'm glad I purchased the book and appreciate the author's insights. Also, the dog pictures throughout were pretty darned cute!

There is important information not only for one who has hearing loss but for those who also communicate with that person. Much insight for both parties. I sent copies to other relatives to help them understand my husband's needs.

This book is cleverly written with wisdom on hearing tips. Makes a great gift for families with loved ones with hearing issues whether young or old. There are not many books written on this topic.

I don't have hearing loss but several family members do. Very effective communication tools for those with hearing loss and those living with those with hearing loss. It's a quick read.

These are things we often think are common sense but in all reality they are not. I love the simplicity of this book and the great easy strategies. I will use this in my office every day to help even more people. Thank you foe taking the time to make this book!!

I like this because it has space to record what you eat, calories, carbs, added sugar, fiber, protein, and fat for 3 meals and 3 snacks, and the time . Also, blood sugar before and after meals, insulin given, physical activity, vitamins, water intake, and a box for notes. The down side is there’s no spot for corrections and it’s rather large to be carting around with you all day. It measures 7” x 10”. A little to big for me

Sollée is empowering and absolutely awesome to read. Sollée teaches undergraduate gender studies at the New school and is the founding editrix of Slutist. Sollée main intention in writing this book is to purely provide a deeper and more complex understanding of what it means to have been and be a feminist today.This is why Sollée chooses to backup her claims with different perspectives of people who are also knowledgeable in this topic. However, she states from the very beginning that she does not agree with all the opinions that she mentions in her book, she is just including them because they are a part of the conversation.In this book Sollée is purely offering her honest opinion and thoughts on a topic she is very knowledgeable about. The book starts off by providing the reader with sufficient information of the origin of the witches and its evolving history to the demonic entity we see it as today. Sollée makes a connection between the witches and the confident an unsubmissive women. Sollée adds more information and deeper understanding as the book progresses.In the chapter ‘Twitch of the Tongue: Language as Spell’, Sollée makes an incredibly important point that is so relevant to our society today. Sollée states “And yet, there are women who associate feminist power with the word “slut"(82). Sollée addresses the negative connotations associated with women's empowerment and liberation movements in today's society. However, she doesn't explain why some women feel so negatively about feminism. Just like men need to unlearn sexist behaviors, so do women. In this chapter she encourages her readers to look at the positives of the word SLUT and associate it with “sexual liberation” (82). Which men had been encouraged to explore for a very long time. This chapter was my favorite, just because Sollée thoroughly breaks down the slut shaming culture we all participate in. Female masturbation is a taboo subject as Sollée explains in her chapter, ‘Sex Magic & The Tools Of Pleasure’. In this chapter she talks about the persecution of women for simply masturbating. Some of the stories that are told in this chapter are quite funny. But once you remember women were murder for these idiotic reasons it loses its humor. An example of this can be found on page 88. She writes “After she supposedly made a deal with the devil, the dark one ‘gave her a stick eighteen inches long and a jar of ointment. She would smear the stick with ointment, put it between her legs and say, ‘Go in the devil's name, go!’ and immediately be carried through the air.” It's interesting how anything that means sexual pleasure to the women, suggested something demonic. Although we don't hear these stories today, a similar feeling is still alive today. Sollée does a good job at explaining that feeling. In ‘ Music Witch: Sound as Sorcery’ Sollée addresses the real power of witchcraft. Its represented in empowering music that allows for “deep healing and transformation" (127). Like Sollée says, it's in every art form that aims at healing. It's really empowering to know that all the pain hasn't gone away, but instead transformed into different forms of creativity. I enjoyed reading this book. It doesn't address every single point when it comes to the the relationships between feminist and slut, but it gives you a real good taste of it. It's empowering and eye opening. Like I mentioned before, if you want to gain new and valuable knowledge, read this book.

We live in an era where if someone calls you a witch or a slut, we are automatically offended. But this book tells us that we should use those words as an insult but should embrace our inner witch and our inner slut too.One of the chapters that I read, "Ghost Bitch U.S.A" really stood out to me in a way that made me realize, in what a sick and disturbing world we live in now, and have been also decades ago. Innocent woman were hanged as a result of others believing they were witches."Puritan men hanged their wives, sisters, mothers, their female landowners...,"They are all coincidentally all women. What does this mean? It means that the only requisite in being considered to be a witch was that you simply had to just be a women. If thought of as a witch it gave men the right to hang you. This chapter angered me, because of the facts that was spitting right to my face, how could women be treated so horribly and inhumane? It shocks me. This chapter talks about the Salem witch trials that occurred in 1693, if you really think about it this happened so many years ago but change hasn't really been present, women are still being treated inhumanely.Next chapter I found truly interesting was, " Undressing the witch: Fashion, Style, and Sartorial Spells," I am really glad this topic was introduced in this book its such a major issue we are going through today. "The length of a hemline, the tightness of a blouse... have been used in courts to sway judges to believes victim of sexual assault was 'asking for it' through her outfit."There are really some men out there that tend to think that how a girl is dressed means she is consenting, which is absolutely ridiculous. This was my favorite chapter out this book.Next chapter, "Music Witch: Sounds as Sorcery," this chapter was very pleasing, how she mentioned Beyonce as being a witch, not to be taken the wrong way witch in this book is talked about as positive. She mentions one of the most influential artists to show how music is being used to embrace your inner witchiness and slutiness.This was a new and different book from others book i have read, but im glad i did. It was satisfying to see how we are embracing our inner witch and slut, and feminism. I also like how it creates awareness, which is much needed, if we want to create change. Overall I really enjoyed reading this book and would definitely would recommend.

I love Dr. Colbert, and I know he genuinely cares about his patients. His advice is sound. This book, though, is kinda disappointing. There aren't that many recipes and some of the ones there are consist of something like steaming vegetables and using various herbs and seasonings on them. Most cooks don't require a recipe for that. I was looking for something a bit more substantial, like some creative ways to get through having the same food over and over. I have found some other recipes online, but I kinda wish I hadn't spent the money for this book. The best thing it has going for it is that Dr. Colbert throws in a lot of encouragement. That is useful.

I was just bothered w/ use of Agave and unfermented soy ( soy milk etc) in the recipesAgave has liver toxicity effect for constant useSoy ( unfermented forms ) -interferes w/ hormone balance especially among females -it has other notorious effects in the health, i.e. predisposes individuals to cancer developmentBut the above does not define the validity and importance of the book itself, I recommend this to those who would like to improve their health and either prevent or manage candidiasisShalom!

Don Colbert does not disappoint. I feel better educated, but also how to deal with the overgrowth of candida in ways that do not necessarily require my PCP/PCMs intervention. This is something that I can do for myself. Taking charge of my body (and the things I have inadvertently caused in it) helps me to feel more empowered over how my body reacts to foods. With each book I read about medical issues and diet, the more convinced I am than ever that we truly are what we eat. Thank you, Dr. Colbert, for publishing these findings.

This book has a good section for evaluating whether you have candida and should consider treating it by diet and a section talking about how to think about doing this diet emotionally etc so you can succeed. The treatment for candida has changed since the book was published so many of the recipes contain food items that I am not allowed on my candida diet. I think the best thing to do is to take recipes you already like and modify them to fit your diet requirements.

Was shipped very quickly, it has some healthy advice for one who is on the journey to overcoming a candida overgrowth/problem, and needs to learn more about candida and or ones condition. That is what i got it for. I read several other books on candida so i could cross reference my research (I have found this is some what a overlooked or ignored medical topic and is not often diagnosed) and this book has a good perspective on the condition, it also suggest other factors to take into consideration, but i do think that it is missing some information on taking care of the condition. But this book was a quick read and can really help point one in the right direction to get educated on this topic.

This is a great, quick, reliable, and sound read. I chose this book in order to find out what natural remedies existed to cure especially sinus infections. I was pleased at his instructions and advisement to consult your own medical professional before taking certain supplements. I like the balance of scripture and sound medical advice. I highly recommend this book!

This is a tiny book that has some good information about candida and has information about the diet if you need it. I've been on the diet for a while, and was a little disappointed by the recipes...some use processed foods like tomato juice, which is hard to find without citric acid. First of all I love Simon Monks books, he is one of the best maker authors out there. However this book is not one of its better efforts. There is a lot of fluff and filler in this short book. There are sections covering basic wiring/C programming conventions like variables, and conditional statements and how to use a breadboard. There are some useful examples but out of the 20 examples 10 are super basic an some are pretty much available in the cloud build IDE environment that you use with the Photon. If you arn't tied to the Photon I would really look into the ESP8266 12-E it has all the functionality, a open environment, and many more available library. I'm not sure why anyone would use a Photon over that device and I have both.

I had a project in mind when I bought a Photon, but I didn't know how to make it all work. The information in this book was exactly what I needed to get my project running. The examples were easy to follow, and I was able to reuse a lot of the code. Overall, I was very pleased with the book, and I'd recommend it to other people looking for a good guide to working with the Photon.

With never using a Photon before, this book was very helpful. I feel like some of the projects in the book were not very practical and needed a lot of extra parts. Fortunately for me I bought it with a specific interest, the "Spark.publish" function. I learned what I needed to and didn't do any of the projects.

A great starter book for using the Photon; the first half of the book includes easy to do projects and the last half is more in-depth projects. Overall, a good instruction tool.

excellent technical book, well written. Now I am awaiting my Photon. Still backordered with SparkFun.
